Netzwerk Klimaanpassung & Unternehmen.NRW is German for “Network on Climate Adaptation & Business.NRW”. Given this is quite a long name, we often refer to our network as “NKU“.  

The NKU is ‚the’ network and competence center at the interface of the business world and the very urgent topic of climate adaptation. At this interface, we have formulated two goals:  

• We support businesses that supply climate adaptation solutions, to grow, to find cooperations, to be seen and to be successful – because there is a huge need for technologies and services in this developing sector.  
• We enable companies from any other sector to understand the risk their business faces with respect to climate hazards such as floods, heat stress or drought, and we provide support in finding the right solutions to become more climate resilient.   

Next to providing information and support to those companies directly, we also create a link between companies and other stakeholders such as research institutions, branche associations and business development agencies on the topic of climate adaptation in North Rhine-Westphalia.  

While our focus is on North-Rhine Westphalian companies our impact goes well beyond these borders!

In line with its slogan “Resilience through Competence” the NKU offers exchange, knowledge and information on climate adaptation & business. 

The NKU offers several tailored-made services for the two target groups:  

1. Companies who offer climate adaptation solutions can increase their visibility by participating in events hosted by the NKU or can profit from sector specific information and knowledge products, such as an analysis on international trade relations. Further, the NKU is also the proud host of the climate adaptation hackathon, in which students develop and pitch innovative ideas for adaptation companies.  

1. Companies who strive to adapt to climate change risks can use the NKU-funding navigator  which helps to filter information on funding & financing support. They can visit the interactive best practice map to find inspiration through best-practice examples or can use the NKU Toolbox, with checklists and other self-check instruments to assess themselves. Also, the NKU provides keynotes, expert presentations and hosts knowledge sessions in cooperation with local partners.
